Stein Mart Inc. is bringing in a veteran from retail chain Hudson’s Bay Co. to lead its online sales efforts.
MaryAnne Morin starts Feb. 6 as president of Stein Mart, No. 586 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 1000. She’ll be responsible for overseeing e-commerce, marketing and merchandising efforts for the merchant, which specializes in discounted designer clothes, shoes and home decor items. She replaces D. Hunt Hawkins, who became the retailer’s permanent chief executive officer, effective Jan. 24. Hawkins was named interim CEO in September after Dawn Robertson resigned from the retailer after just six months.
Morin spent the past nearly eight years in executive roles at Hudson’s Bay (No. 75), mostly with the retail group’s Lord & Taylor brand, rising to become Hudson’s Bay’s chief merchant in January 2015. She also worked two years as a merchandise manager for Macy’s Inc. (No. 6).
“With her extensive retail, omnichannel and product development experience, she will lead us in developing merchandise and marketing plans that will build our business by driving positive change and better engagement with our customers,” Hawkins said about Morin.
Stein Mart reported online sales increased 31% year over year during the fiscal third quarter ended Oct. 29, and accounted for 2.2% of the retailer’s total sales. Based on overall sales during the quarter of $299.5 million, that would mean Stein Mart generated $6.6 million in online sales in Q3, up from $5.0 million during the same period of 2015. Total sales declined less than 1% year over year during the quarter.
