The road to eBay goes through Google and Apple for one exec

Google, Apple and now eBay: R.J. Pittman has taken a job as the online marketplace’s chief product officer and senior vice president.
The new position gives Pittman the lead of eBay’s Product organization and responsibility for “creating world-class, end-to-end product experiences for more than 124 million active users and 25 million sellers,” according to eBay Marketplaces president Devin Wenig.
Pittman had worked at Apple Inc., No. 3 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, since 2010. He was Apple’s head of worldwide e-commerce platform. Besides overseeing Apple’s e-commerce operations around the globe—that is, 38 international Apple online stores—he also responsible for contact center technology and international expansion, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Before Apple, Pittman worked as Google Inc.’s product management director, which gave him oversight of such products as image search, video and Google Trends, according to his online resume. Google hired him in 2007. Previously, he was CEO and co-founder of search engine technology firm Groxis Inc.
“His broad experience will help in our ongoing efforts to build innovative, relevant and engaging experiences for our customers,” Wenig says.
EBay Inc. yesterday reported that its U.S. sales increased 15% year over year in the third quarter. Its PayPal online payments unit also recently launched a loan program for small- and mid-sized retailers.
