The Otto Group’s digital expert gets a promotion

German e-commerce giant Otto Group’s digital expert is taking on a greater role within the company.

Otto Group, No. 2 in the Internet Retailer Europe 500, promoted Lars Finger to managing director of marketing, e-commerce and IT at fashions and furnishings subsidiary Heinrich Heine GmbH as Otto proceeds with its strategy of investing in digital-focused businesses.

Heinrich Heine GmbH has operated its e-commerce store since 1996, and offers more than 22,000 products online, according to Otto Group.

Since joining  Otto Group in April 2010, Finger, 46, has served as director of the Otto Group’s E-Commerce Competence Center, which includes six teams that focus on online strategy, user experience, web analytics, innovation, online marketing and mobile. He also was responsible for Group-wide innovation management and established a tool for customer and online-focused analysis and development of companies. 

"The appointment of Dr. Lars Finger is part of our strategy to bring in any relevant subsidiary Digital competence (into) the management,” says Rainer Hillebrand, vice chairman of the Otto Group’s executive board. data shows Otto Group finished 2014 with web sales of $7.28 billion (U.S.). The company also owns home furnishing retailer Crate & Barrel and European fulfillment provider Hermes. The company announced in February it is planning to invest millions of euros in e-commerce, mobile and software startup ventures over the next two years.
