An office products startup hires a 1-800-Flowers executive

Fledgling office products retailer Poppin Inc. has hired former Inc. executive Kevin Ranford as its chief marketing officer. Ranford will oversee the company’s consumer acquisition and retention efforts across all channels.

Poppin underwent a beta launch last June; beta launch is when a site moves from research and development into a public testing period.

Poppin calls itself a “novel office products company” that aims to revamp the office supplies market by selling private-label products in bright “happy” colors. In addition to standard site navigation that enables shoppers to view products by category, consumers can also browse via 17 product colors, ranging from turquoise to magenta.

“They are reinventing the vertical and reimaging it into something that is compelling to both consumers and businesses by redesigning formerly lifeless products and bringing happiness and inspiration to the workplace,” Ranford says.

Poppin is privately held and has received venture funding from firms including Shasta Ventures and First Round Capital. search engine optimization and business development consultant Jordan Glogau will speak at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition 2012 in June at a session entitled “Can you generate sales on Facebook?”
