Ingram Micro expands European e-commerce portfolio with an acquisition

Ingram Micro Inc., which specializes in online distribution of software and other technology products, has acquired a European provider of e-commerce and fulfillment services.
Ingram Micro Commerce and Fulfillment Solutions will pay $175 million for Docdata N.V. and use the acquisition to provide additional fulfillment and return services to European retailers and brands, a company spokesman says. Docdata is the e-commerce platform provider for British department store chain House of Fraser Stores Ltd., No. 89 in the 2015 Internet Retailer Europe Top 500 Guide.
Ingram Micro distributes computer hardware and software and other technology products in about 160 countries for such manufacturers as Apple Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., IBM Corp., Microsoft Corp, Samsung Electronics Co. and Cisco Systems Inc. Through its Ingram Micro Logistics division, it provides customer service and fulfillment services for online retailers and other companies through more than 50 logistics services centers.
The acquisition adds Docdata’s eight warehouses in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom to Ingram Micro’s five warehouses in Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K., a spokesman says.
Docdata’s other customers include European retailers Zalando SE (No. 8 in the 2015 Europe 500) and BOL, a major e-retailer in The Netherlands, and brands like Wine-in-black and Ace & Tate, the spokesman says.
“The acquisition brings us fulfillment and e-commerce services, as well as size and e-commerce strength in Europe, providing a key step in growing Ingram Micro’s global footprint and revenue,” the Docdata spokesman says. “It makes us a pretty significant player in Europe.”
Docdata’s technology and services complement those of Shipwire, which Ingram Micro acquired two years ago to expand its ability to provide warehousing, fulfillment and logistics services for retailers and consumer brand manufacturers, says Ken Beyer, Ingram Micro commerce and fulfillment solutions executive vice president.
The company doesn’t break out its sales from mobile devices or the web.
