Fandango designs Apple Watch app for scannable movie tickets

Fandango, the nation’s leading moviegoer destination, announced today that it is bringing its showtime and ticketing app to world of Apple Watch. It will be one of the first group of apps available for Apple Watch customers on April 24. That launch date happens to be one week before the summer movie season kicks off with “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1.

The Fandango app will deliver a mobile barcoded ticket to the Apple Watch to moviegoers who purchased a ticket on Fandango. The barcoded ticket can be scanned by the ticket-taker for easy access to the theater. The Fandango Apple Watch app will also provide a reminder of your upcoming showtime, along with directions to the theater, theater amenities information (like reserved seating info) and, of course, a countdown-to-showtime clock.

This is not the first time Fandango has worked with Apple – the company currently provides movie and showtime info, plus ticketing, for Apple’s iTunes, Siri and Passbook. In addition to being on the iPhone and iPad and soon, the Apple Watch, the company also partners with Google, Samsung, Yahoo!, Amazon, MSN, AOL, Twitter, Roku, and Hulu. Fandango reports 46 million downloads of its showtimes and ticketing app.
