E-commerce stocks trail the broader market

E-commerce stocks tracked in the Internet Retailer Online Retail Index did not weather as well as the broader market last week, posting a 1.0% loss over the previous week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Standard & Poor’s 500 posted 1.7% and 1.3% gains, respectively.

Leading the gainers last week was Keynote Systems Inc., which provides Internet and mobile measurement services, with an 8.1% increase over the prior week’s closing. Keynote Systems’ stock closed at $15.45 last Friday compared with a June 8 closing price of $14.29.

On the other end, Inc., No. 86 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, had a 15.0% decrease in its stock value, going from $7.41 on June 8 to $6.30 at the end of last week

The Online Retail Index tracks 25 publicly traded e-retailers and e-commerce technology providers. Thirteen advanced last week, while 12 had decreases.

• Coastal Contacts, -8.5%

• Vistaprint, -8.4%

• Digital River, -8.3%

• Blue Nile, -7.2%
