The head of one of the world’s leading footwear brands is relinquishing some of his responsibilities, while an industry veteran earns a promotion.
Deckers Brands CEO and chairman of the board Angel Martinez is relinquishing the title of president to footwear industry veteran Dave Powers. Martinez will remain in his other roles with the company. It’s a promotion for Powers, who had previously served as president of company’s direct-to-consumer division since 2012. Deckers, which counts such major footwear brands as Ugg and Teva among its offerings, is No. 160 in the 2014 Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
In a press release announcing the move, the company praised Powers’ success running the company’s global and e-commerce operations during his tenure.
“His work developing our omnichannel model has dramatically enhanced how consumers engage with our brands across retail, e-commerce and wholesale,” Martinez says. “I’m confident that further aligning our brand portfolio and consumer centric market strategy under Dave’s leadership will move us closer to achieving our global vision for the company.”
Powers’ promotion comes on the heels of a successful third quarter of fiscal 2015 for the company. Online sales grew more than 25% year-over-year in Q3 2015 to $146.9 million during the quarter. For the first nine months of fiscal 2015, online sales are up 28.7%, to $183.9 million versus $142.9 million during the same period last year.
Earlier this month, Deckers announced plans to capitalize on that growth by rolling out a new multi-brand e-commerce platform in the Asia-Pacific region aimed at better capturing more of a global audience.
