She replaces Laura Weil, whom the company says resigned to focus on other pursuits. is No. 629 in Internet Retailer’s Second 500 Guide with an Internet Retailer-estimated $7.4 million in web sales last year. It began selling online in 2008. Clancy says she intends to develop Ashley Stewart’s e-commerce channel and expand the company’s retail footprint.

Since 2007, Clancy had served as president of AJWright, a discount retail chain owned by TJX Cos. Inc. TJX closed all AJWright stores in February. AJWright had no e-commerce presence.

“Celia is known for being a decisive leader and team builder,” says James Rhee, managing director of GB Merchant Partners, the private equity firm that bought Ashley Stewart last October. “She is known for building high-performing teams and cultures and she has grown major retail brands by significantly improving the merchandise mix and in-store experience.”

Prior to TJX, Clancy worked as a senior operations consultant at private equity firm Cerberus and from 1997 to 2005 worked for Wal-Mart as senior vice president and general merchandise manager.

“I am very excited to join the team at Ashley Stewart. From my days at both Wal-Mart and AJWright, I have always been a strong admirer of the store and the brand,” Clancy says.
