Web and total sales grow for Neiman Marcus

E-commerce was the leading sales channel for The Neiman Marcus Group Inc. in the second quarter.

For the second quarter of fiscal 2011 ended Jan. 29, Neiman Marcus, No. 41 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, reported:

  • Internet sales of $202.9 million, a 7.2% increase from $189.3 million in the prior year fiscal period.
  • Catalog sales increased 0.9% compared to the prior year fiscal period. The upscale retail chain did not break out catalog sales figures.
  • Total revenue of $1.17 billion, up by 6.4% from $1.10 billion.
  • Comparable-store sales increased 6.0%.
  • Net income of $21 million, a 425% increase compared with net income of $4 million in the prior year.

Internet Retailer calculates the web made up 17.3% of sales in the second quarter, compared with 17.2% in the prior year.

For the first six months, Neiman Marcus reported:

  • Web sales of $341.9 million, up by 10.9% from $308.2 million in the prior year period.
  • Catalog sales decreased 1.7% compared to the prior year fiscal period. The company did not break out catalog sales figures.
  • Total sales of $2.10 billion, a 6.6% increase compared with $1.97 billion in the prior year.
  • Comparable-store sales increased 6.2%.
  • Net income of $46.8 million, up by 274.4% compared with net income of $12.5 million in the prior year.

Internet Retailer calculates the web made up 16.3% of sales in the first half of the year compared with 15.6% in the prior year.
