Target Corp. continues to boost its supply chain team under chief supply chain and logistics officer Arthur Valdez, whom it hired away from Amazon.com Inc. in earlier this year.

Target has hired Ben Cook from Apple Inc. as its senior vice president of global logistics, inventory allocation and replenishment to work under Valdez. Cook, who starts on Sunday, had previously been director of logistics and supply chain at Apple, No. 2 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide. He also spent nearly four years in various roles at The Home Depot Inc. (No. 7).

“We believe he’s the right addition to the work we’re doing to strengthen Target’s supply chain so we can offer an even faster and simpler guest experience,” Valdez said.

Target, No. 22 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, faced a stumbling block when it tried to hire Valdez, who had been Amazon’s vice president of operations. Target announced Valdez’s hiring in February with an anticipated start date of March 28, but Amazon (No. 1) filed a lawsuit seeking to enforce a non-compete agreement that Valdez had signed with the company on June 18, 2012.

Amazon’s case against Valdez was quietly dismissed on April 12, according to court documents. A Target spokesman declined to comment on the matter.
