Dawn Robertson has stepped down as CEO of Stein Mart Inc. after six months in the position.
No reason was given for Robertson’s departure. The discount fashion and housewares retail chain, No. 586 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Second 500 Guide, said chief operating officer D. Hunt Hawkins will take over as interim CEO.
“Some of the sales initiatives that have been developed under Dawn’s leadership are important for our future and we will continue to cultivate them to drive sales in this challenging retail environment,” Stein Mart founder and chairman of the board Jay Stein said.
Robertson was named CEO of Stein Mart in March, taking over from Stein. She previously served as CEO of fashion retailer Deb Shops Inc., which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2014. Robertson also held executive-level roles with apparel manufacturer and retail chain Old Navy (parent Gap Inc. is No. 20 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide), Saks (parent Hudson’s Bay Co. is No. 75) and Federated Department Stores (now known as Macy’s Inc., No. 6).
Earlier this year, Stein Mart launched a mobile-responsive website. Online sales grew 20.8% year over year in Q2 2016 to $5.8 million, representing 1.8% of Stein Mart’s total sales during the quarter.
