Sally Beauty hires a new president

A multichannel beauty supplies retailer is furnishing its executive suite with an e-commerce leader from housewares retail chain Pier 1 Inc.

Sally Beauty Supply, No. 483 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, hired retail veteran Sharon Leite as president of its U.S. and Canada division. She takes over Feb. 1. The position had been vacant since the May 2014 resignation of Tobin Anderson, according to company documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Leite previously was an executive vice president at Pier 1 (No. 161) where her responsibilities included heading the company’s e-commerce efforts. Over the past three years, Pier 1 has grown its online sales at a compound annual growth rate of 128.59%, going from $16.8 million in 2012 to an Internet Retailer-estimated $200.2 million in 2014.

Prior to joining Pier 1, Leite held management roles with L Brands Inc.’s (No. 28) Bath & Body Works as well as apparel retailer Gap Inc. (No. 18).

“She brings a keen understanding of customer engagement and a proven track record of building and driving sales in a demanding retail environment,” Sally Beauty CEO Chris Brickman said. “I am confident that her consumer-led approach will accelerate our progress in becoming the leading provider of salon quality products in the retail sector.”

Sally Beauty Supply’s online sales have grown at a below-market pace in the past five years, according to data from, going from an Internet Retailer-estimated $23 million in 2010 to $28.7 million in 2014, a compound annual growth rate of 4.5%. Pier 1, meanwhile, was the winner of the Comeback of the Year award at the inaugural Internet Retailer Excellence Awards last June. Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2016 Internet Retailer Excellence Awards, which will be handed out on June 8 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Ballroom during the Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition.
