The Container Store Inc. has promoted its vice president of creative and online to the C-suite as part of several executive changes at the housewares retailer.

Melissa Collins will become the first chief marketing officer at The Container Store, No. 316 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, effective July 1. Collins has been with the retailer since 1997 and in her current position since September 2008, the company said Monday in announcing the promotion. In her new role, she’ll oversee The Container Store’s e-commerce initiatives in addition to marketing and public relations.

According to Top500Guide.com data, The Container Store generated an Internet Retailer-estimated $71.9 million in online sales last year, up 11.0% from $64.8 million in 2014.

Meanwhile, founder and CEO Kip Tindell will step down after nearly 40 years, with current chief operating officer and president Melissa Reiff taking over for him. Tindell will remain with the company as chairman of the board. Chief merchandising officer Sharon Tindell, who is married to Kip Tindell, will take over for Reiff as president while remaining in her current role.

“Our board and I feel that this new structure and enhanced responsibilities will provide continuity coupled with renewed vigor and vision for innovation and excellence in bringing the company to its full and amazing potential within this ever-changing world of retail, all while nurturing and developing a business where everyone associated with it can thrive,” Kip Tindell said.
