Online gaming platform Kongregate is debuting its first mobile games this summer, with the first title coming this month from the GameStop Corp. subsidiary.
Kongregate, which has provided free online games since 2006, boasts 15 million monthly unique visitors who spend 28 million hours playing games per month. Advertisers include Electronic Arts, Sony Pictures, Nokia, Xbox 360 and Frito Lay. Kongregate’s first mobile game is “Tyrant: Unleashed,” a collectible card game.
GameStop did not say if it would charge for the mobile games or which smartphones they will be compatible with.
GameStop bought Kongregate in 2010, adding two other digital gaming businesses in 2011. That year GameStop said it wanted to reach $1.5 billion in digital sales before 2015.
GameStop is No. 53 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
