Online-only retailer eBags.com announced record holiday sales, increasing 32% over last year. Seven of the 12-year-old handbag and luggage retailer’s 10 largest sales days occurred in 2011, the company says.
For 2011, eBags, No. 114 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, reported:
- Web sales increased by a record 26%. Based on Internet Retailer estimates, 2011 sales increased $41.2 million to $199.6 million from $158.4 million in 2010.
- Sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving, also known as Cyber Monday, increased 46% compared with Cyber Monday 2010. The company did not disclose total sales figures.
- Sales from mobile devices grew 187% this holiday season and accounted for 9.0% of total sales, or about $18.0 million based on Internet Retailer estimates. Mobile sales accounted for 3.9% of 2010 holiday sales or about $6.2 million.
- Of the visits to eBags.com this holiday season, 13.4% came from mobile devices versus 5.8% during the same period in 2010.
EBags attributes the strong sales performance to an optimized product mix, competitive prices and a web site geared to holiday shopping. “Whether it was site speed, search, or pages where products are displayed, our team worked relentlessly to ensure that the eBags.com web site was ready for the holiday rush,” says Vince Jones, CEO.
EBags.com carries about 42,000 products from more than 500 brands, including Cole Haan, Fossil, Kenneth Cole, The North Face, Tumi and Vera Bradley.
