Dick’s Sporting Goods is banking on outdoor enthusiasts doing more of their shopping indoors.
The sporting goods chain, No. 70 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, launched an e-commerce site for its Field & Stream retail chain. Shoppers on FieldandStreamShop.com can peruse hunting, shooting and fishing equipment, as well as footwear and apparel. Shoppers receive free shipping on apparel and footwear regardless of order size and free shipping on all other online orders over $49.
“It's been a goal of ours to offer our customers the convenience of a seamless shopping experience both in our stores as well as online," says Traci Hayes, Dick’s vice president of e-commerce. "With the launch of our e-commerce platform, outdoor enthusiasts across the country are now able to access a vast assortment of quality products offered at Field & Stream stores."
This will be the third online store run by Dick’s, following its flagship store-commerce site. During the second quarter of fiscal 2015, Dick’s reported online sales were up 24.4% year-over-year and now account for 7.3% of the retail chain’s overall revenues.
In August, Dick’s executives told analysts it planned to move its e-commerce platform in-house from the eBay Enterprise unit of eBay Inc., which has operated the Dick’s e-commerce sites 2001, when it was GSI Commerce. Chairman and CEO Edward W. Stack said a new GolfGalaxy.com site launched earlier this year on the internal platform, which allows the retailer to ship online orders from stores.
Operating multiple e-commerce sites instead of one on the new e-commerce technology will improve profits by reducing costs, he said.
