Celebrity fashion designer Rachel Zoe ventures into e-commerce

Celebrity fashion designer Rachel Zoe is getting into the online subscription retail game.

Zoe is introducing a quarterly beauty and fashion subscription service called Box of Style, she announced via her website, The Zoe Report. The designer’s lifestyle site reports fashion news and beauty tips.

For $100 per shipment, subscribers will receive a box filled with lifestyle and beauty products chosen by Zoe and her team and valued at around $300 at list price. Each box will include at least one item valued at more than $100. Boxes will be packed and shipped seasonally—four times per year—starting this spring.

Zoe is entering a field that has a handful of competitors. Among them is Birchbox, which began as a subscription-based company and has since evolved into a more traditional e-commerce retailer, and JustFab, which reportedly brings in 90% of its annual revenue from monthly subscribers. JustFab is No. 118 in the Internet Retailer 2014 Top 500 Guide.

Zoe previously did not sell products directly through The Zoe Report, but the site does have an e-commerce component in that it links to editors’ favorite products sold elsewhere on the Internet.
