Boxed Wholesale LLC has named Sam’s Club veteran Heather Mayo to fill the newly created position of chief merchandising officer.

As the retailer’s, first chief merchandising officer, Mayo will oversee both the company’s product assortment and its merchandising efforts. She will start Nov. 7.

Mayo had spent the past 11 ½ years at Sam’s Club, most recently as senior vice president of operations, before leaving in March, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also spent 10 years earlier in her career as a vice president at BJ’s Wholesale Club. Sam’s Club’s parent company Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is No. 4 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, BJ’s Wholesale Club is No. 282 and Boxed is No. 405.

"Given the company's many strengths, I have great confidence that we can continue Boxed's explosive growth and ability to provide memorable experiences for our customers by driving value, convenience and delivering on our brand promise through our dedicated team," Mayo says.

Boxed Wholesale was named the Emerging E-Retailer of the Year at the second annual Internet Retailer Excellence Awards in June. According to Top500Guide.com, Boxed generated an Internet Retailer-estimated $45 million in sales last year, up 100% from $22.5 million in 2014. According to CrunchBase, Boxed has raised a total of $132.6 million in funding over six rounds since launching in 2013.
