Bon-Ton names an e-commerce veteran as its next CEO

Regional department store chain retailer The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. has a new CEO with a lot of experience running a big e-commerce operation.
Bon-Ton, No. 520 in the Internet Retailer Second 500 Guide, has hired Brendan Hoffman to be its next CEO. Until recently Hoffman was the CEO of Lord & Taylor Holdings LLC, another regional department store chain that on Monday was acquired by Hudson's Bay Co., a Canadian retail conglomerate that also owns three retail chains and operates 600 stores.
Prior to running Lord & Taylor, Hoffman was the CEO of Neiman Marcus Direct, a part of The Neiman Marcus Group Inc., No. 39 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. In fiscal 2011 Neiman Marcus posted e-commerce sales of $653.7 million, up 13.9% from $574.0 million in fiscal 2010.
Hoffman will replace Bud Bergren as CEO, while Bergren stays on as chairman. Bon-Ton operates 276 department stores under brands such as Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers. Bon-Ton launched e-commerce in 2007.
