Bath & Body Works’ e-commerce sales soar nearly 30% in Q3

E-commerce accounts for  a growing share of Bath & Body Works’ overall sales.

The retailer, which is owned by L Brands Inc., No. 28 in Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, reported Wednesday that Bath & Body Works’ direct revenue, which is mainly online, grew 29.7% in the fiscal third quarter ended Oct. 29. The division now makes up roughly 18.8% of the brand’s overall sales.

However, L Brands’ other large brand, Victoria’s Secret, reported more sluggish results. The lingerie brand’s direct revenue increased 4.5% and its overall sales grew just 1.0%.

For the fiscal third quarter 2016, ended Oct. 29, L Brands reported:

  • Total revenue across its stores of $2.581 billion, up 4.0% from $2.481 billion a year earlier.
  • Victoria’s Secret Direct revenue of $298.2 million, up 4.5% from $285.4 million.
  • Total Victoria’s Secret revenue of $1.584 billion, up 1.0% from $1.568 billion.
  • Victoria’s Secret Direct revenue accounted for 18.8% of the business unit’s overall revenue, up slightly from 18.2%.
  • Bath & Body Works Direct revenue, which is largely online, of $88.6 million up 29.7% from $68.3 million.
  • Total Bath & Body Works revenue of $770.2 million, up 9.2% from $705.5 million.
  • Bath & Body Works Direct revenue accounted for 11.5% of the business unit’s overall revenue, up from 9.7%.
  • Net income of $121.6 million, down 25.9% from $164.0 million.

For the first nine months of the year, L Brands reported:

  • Total revenue across its stores of $8.805 billion, up 13.5% from $7.759 billion a year earlier.
  • Victoria’s Secret Direct revenue of $1.056 billion, up 6.4% from $992.5 million.
  • Total Victoria’s Secret revenue of $5.192 billion, up 2.6% from $5.058 billion.
  • Victoria’s Secret Direct revenue accounted for 20.3% of the business unit’s overall revenue, up slightly from 19.6%.
  • Bath & Body Works Direct revenue, which is largely online, of $254.4 million up 24.8% from $203.8 million.
  • Total Bath & Body Works revenue of $2.232 billion, up 8.0 % from $2.067 billion.
  • Bath & Body Works Direct revenue accounted for 11.4% of the business unit’s overall revenue, up from 9.9%.
  • Net income of $526.4 million, down 14.7% from $617.0 million.
